Chicago vanquishes Wisconsin in shootout, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chicago Junior Bulldogs defeated the Wisconsin Whalers in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 18 attempts between the teams. Wisconsin got shootout goals from Zach Johnson and Jon Skarlis. In addition to the clincher, Chicago got shootout goals from Joey Mavrin and Matt Kostopoulos.

In a losing effort, the Whalers were paced by Jason Hoehn, who finished with two goals. Hoehn scored the first of his two goals at 13:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tim Tarvis picked up the assist. Hoehn's next tally made the score 4-4 with 7:40 left in the third period. Wisconsin earned a power play opportunity when Luke Morin was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Johnson assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, the Whalers were led by Hoehn, who grabbed two goals.

The Junior Bulldogs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Chicago was led by Jeremy Szczurek, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Szczurek scored on the power play 7:55 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Chicago. The Junior Bulldogs had gotten the advantage when Wisconsin's Tarvis was sent off for interference. Mavrin picked up the assist. Chicago additionally got points from Mavrin, who also had one goal and one assist and Morin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chicago also got a goal from Matthew Mullally as well. In addition, Chicago received assists from Kostopoulos, who had three and Daniel Marotz and Zac Edwards, who contributed one a piece.

The Whalers kept Chicago's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Krch made 47 saves on 51 shots.

Others who scored for Wisconsin included Ryan Martin and Adam Alcott, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wisconsin came via D.J. Mussey and Mitch Riese, who each chipped in one.

The Junior Bulldogs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wisconsin's Connor Fissel stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Whalers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
