xFlint takes care of Cleveland early, wins 7-0

The xFlint Junior Generals jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 7-0.

xFlint was paced by Mark McGee, who grabbed one goal. McGee scored 1:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xFlint.

The Junior Generals forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game xFlint had been spending in the box. The Junior Generals made Cleveland's goalies to work all game long, racking up 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Tyler Jansen made 24 stops and Sam Pikus made six. xFlint put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Lumberjacks to score on any of their five power plays. The Junior Generals' goal total was higher than their season average. xFlint averages 4.7 goals per game.

xFlint also got points from Zach Koonce, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Nicholas Gnagni, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xFlint included Jacob Drinkard, Jacob Lainesse, and Brett Leppek, who scored one goal each. In addition, xFlint received assists from Oliver Lindstrom, Conner McGovern, Caleb Gannelli, Chris Skordilis, Brit Brothen, and Justin Fisher, who contributed one a piece and Austin Fletcher and Conor Durgan, who each chipped in two.

Cleveland was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. Lumberjacks average 3.6 goals per game.

Anders Franke rejected 15 shots on goal for the Junior Generals. xFlint registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Cleveland ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
