Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Peoria Mustangs defeated the Cincinnati Swords in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Cincinnati's shootout goals were scored by Hunter Schneider and Emil Sundstrom. Peoria's other shootout goals were scored by Andrew Scofield and Nathan Chasteen.The Mustangs overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Peoria fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Swords' Brenden Williams at 2:45 in the third period. The Mustangs tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Austin Ziakas at 9:12 in the third period. Peoria's offense rang up 32 shots on Cincinnati's net. The Mustangs were led by Joshua Hart, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hart scored on the power play 15:27 into the second period to make the score 2-2. An interference penalty on RJ Marshall had put Peoria on the power play. Scofield provided the assist. Peoria also got a goal from Sam Turner as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Chasteen, Brennan Anderson, Blake Ortman, and Brendan Murphy, who each chipped in one. The Swords kept the Mustangs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Hayton made 33 saves on 36 shots. Cincinnati also had goals scored by Aaron Storch and Nikita Korotkov, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cincinnati were Thomas Clayton, Schneider, and Luke McCammant, who contributed one a piece. Peoria incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Joe Sheppard made 28 saves for Cincinnati on 31 shots. The Swords incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
