Wisconsin uses fast start to beat Battle Creek, 7-0

The Wisconsin Whalers opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-0 over the Battle Creek Revolution.

Wisconsin was sparked by Dan Addie, who grabbed one goal. Addie scored on the power play 2:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wisconsin. The Whalers had gotten the advantage when Battle Creek's Daniel Olson was sent off for holding. D.J. Mussey provided the assist.

Wisconsin forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Whalers surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Wisconsin's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Battle Creek power plays. The Whalers kept the Revolution's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Mortland made 66 saves on 73 shots. Wisconsin outdid its season average for goals scored. The Whalers average 4.0 goals per game. Wisconsin got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Wisconsin also got points from Zack Johnson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brett Gates, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kaleb Morley also scored for Wisconsin. More assists for Wisconsin came via Nauris Buskevics, Clayton Janecke, Adam Alcott, Connor Hyde, and David Volkmann, who contributed one a piece and Jason Hoehn and Easton Halbert, who each chipped in three.

The Battle Creek penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 13 minors and one major for 71 minutes in penalty time. The Revolution had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Volkmann recorded 23 saves for the Whalers. Wisconsin registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities. For Battle Creek, Olson and Barkley Haney were ejected from the contest.
