Peoria takes care of Battle Creek early, wins 9-1

Owens Rec Ctr    Sun, Jan 19, 2014

The Battle Creek Revolution fell behind early, and the Peoria Mustangs kept piling on the points on the way to a 9-1 victory.

Gage VanOrder had two goals and one assist to lead Peoria. VanOrder scored the first of his two goals at 4:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Thomas Kolaz assisted on the tally. VanOrder's next tally made the score 8-0 Peoria with 11:18 left in the third period. Kolaz picked up the assist.

The Mustangs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Battle Creek to score on any of its five power plays. The Revolution were unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 59 shots on goal. Peoria surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Mustangs have scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Peoria additionally got points from Sam Turner, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Scofield, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Peoria came via Marc Peters, Austin Ziakas, Jordan Wright, Levi Armstrong, Blake Ortman, Joe Lampman, and Joshua Hart, who each chipped in one.

Battle Creek managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Revolution ended up below its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Battle Creek's offense was handcuffed by Peoria's defensive play, and the Revolution managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

Chance Kremer recorded 11 saves for the Mustangs. Peoria incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Battle Creek's Zach Kooi stopped 50 shots out of the 59 that he faced.
