Metro beats Michigan 6-3 as Shreve gets hat trick

Kyle Shreve lifted the Metro Jets to a 6-3 victory with a hat trick against the Michigan Mountain Cats.

Shreve got on the scoresheet 16:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:10 into the first and at 18:59 into the second.

Metro pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:59 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Jets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Michigan power plays. Michigan was unable to stop Metro from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Metro surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jets average 2.9 goals per contest.

Metro additionally got points from Alex Holm, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Metro also had goals scored by Travis Baranowski and Matt Dempsey, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Cooper McLean, who had two, Zach Mac Kay, who had four, and Josh Hosking, Adam Lockner, and Carter Reid, who contributed one a piece.

The Mountain Cats were led by Max Vance, who tallied one goal. Vance scored 15:50 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Metro. Jacob Gleason picked up the assist. Others who scored for Michigan included Kade Morrison and Shawn Cornock, who scored one goal each. More assists for Michigan came via Shawn Mott, who had one.

Trevor Kalinowski rejected 26 shots on goal for Metro. The Jets registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Metro, Niko Greco was ejected from the game. Kevin OShea recorded 32 saves for Michigan. The Mountain Cats ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Michigan ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeremy Cugliari was ejected from the game.
