Kupaks' hat trick boosts Topeka over Sugar Land, 6-4

Hardijis Kupaks netted a hat trick to lead the Topeka Capitals over the Sugar Land Imperials, 6-4.

Kupaks got on the scoresheet 10:59 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:37 into the third and at 4:39 into the third.

Topeka put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Sugar Land to score on any of its four power plays. The Imperials were unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Capitals were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time.

Topeka additionally got points from Nolan Stanley, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Kole Hudson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Luke Thom, Nick Rizzo, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who each chipped in two.

Sugar Land was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 72 minutes in penalty time. The Imperials had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Sugar Land was led by Matthew Winkle, who racked up three goals. Sugar Land also got points from Zachary Blohm, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Sugar Land came via Alex Tilman, Wayne Hubley, Aksel Campbell, and Dylan Edwards, who contributed one a piece.

Mike McElroy took the win and made 20 saves before being replaced by Hayden Smith who made six saves. Topeka registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Colton Anderson recorded 34 saves for the Imperials. Sugar Land ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Yves Bader was ejected from the game.
