xFlint survives penalties, beats Metro, 7-4

The xFlint Junior Generals' penalty kill was superb, as xFlint survived multiple penalties to beat the Metro Jets, 7-4.

The Junior Generals were often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game xFlint had been spending in the box. The Junior Generals made Jets' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Davide Mantovani made 23 stops and Kameron Limburg made three. xFlint bested its season scoring average. This season, the Junior Generals average 4.7 goals per contest. xFlint's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Junior Generals average 1.9 goal allowed per game.

xFlint was led by Brit Brothen, who registered one goal and one assist. Brothen scored 12:45 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Zach Koonce provided the assist. xFlint also got points from Andrew Bellant, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Koonce, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. xFlint also had goals scored by Jacob Drinkard, Josh Koepplinger, Trevor Benaglio, and Luke Dmytro, who each put in one. More assists for xFlint came via Jacob Lainesse, who had two and Conner McGovern, Austin Fletcher, Conor Durgan, and Ryan Burr, who contributed one a piece.

Metro racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Jets had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Metro's offense rang up 33 shots on the Junior Generals' net.

The Jets were helped by Zach Mac Kay, who had one goal and one assist. Mac Kay scored short handed 2:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Metro. Metro found itself down a man on Cooper McLean's tripping. Metro additionally got points from Matt Dempsey, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Metro also got a goal from Josh Beleski as well. In addition, Metro received assists from Brad Hepler, who had one.

Andrew Wagner recorded 29 saves for xFlint. The Junior Generals registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Jets registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Metro, Zach Kopinski was ejected from the game.
