McGee's big game bests Michigan in 7-1 xFlint win

The xFlint Junior Generals' Mark McGee had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-1 win over the Michigan Mountain Cats.

McGee found the back of the net 3:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xFlint and again while 12:59 into the first to make the score 2-0 xFlint.

xFlint was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Junior Generals had been spending in the box. xFlint made Mountain Cats' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 52 shots and forcing 45 saves. Walker Bass made 19 stops and Kevin OShea made 26. The Junior Generals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. xFlint outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Junior Generals average 4.7 goals per contest.

xFlint also got points from Conor Durgan, who also had one goal and one assist and Justin Fisher, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. xFlint also had goals scored by Austin Fletcher, Cody Wright, and Brett Leppek, who scored one goal each. In addition, xFlint received assists from Trevor Benaglio, who had two and Conner McGovern and Nicholas Gnagni, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Mountain Cats surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Penalties took their toll on Michigan, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Michigan also got a goal from Abram Prince as well. More assists for Michigan came via Max Vance and Zach Collins, who each chipped in one.

xFlint's starting goalie, Anders Franke, made 12 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Andrew Wagner, who stopped seven shots.
