Martin's hat trick boosts Wisconsin over Peoria, 7-2

Ryan Martin lifted the Wisconsin Whalers to a 7-2 victory with a hat trick against the Peoria Mustangs.

Martin notched his first tally 18:32 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:09 into the second and at 10:05 into the third.

Wisconsin stifled Peoria's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Whalers forced the Mustangs goalie Marc Hayton to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Wisconsin bested its season scoring average. The Whalers average 4.0 goals per game.

Wisconsin additionally got points from Zack Johnson, who also registered one goal and two assists and Connor Hyde, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wisconsin included Max Whitney and Tim Tarvis, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Brett Gates, who had three and Mitch Riese, Connor Morgan, and Easton Halbert, who each chipped in one.

Peoria's offense operated below it season average. The Mustangs average 5.0 goals per game. Wisconsin was unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Peoria was helped by Brendan Murphy, who tallied one goal. Murphy scored 3:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wisconsin. Chance Homerin assisted on the tally. Peoria also got a goal from Sam Turner as well. More assists for Peoria came via Austin Ziakas, Nathan Chasteen, and Joshua Hart, who contributed one a piece.

David Volkmann rejected 38 shots on goal for the Whalers. Wisconsin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Hayton recorded 45 saves for the Mustangs. Peoria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
