Wisconsin falls to Alexandria in overtime, 7-6 (OT)

The Alexandria Blizzard's Easton Halbert scored 19:57 into overtime to beat the Wisconsin Whalers, 7-6 (OT).

Alexandria got the win with help from a great game by Ian Ecklund, who had two goals and one assist. Ecklund scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:47 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alexandria. The Blizzard earned a power play opportunity when Jason Hoehn was put in the box for roughing. Ethan Luck assisted on the tally. Ecklund's next tally on the power play made the score 7-7 with 19:08 left in overtime. Tom Schmidt picked up the assist.

Wisconsin was unable to stop Alexandria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blizzard eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Alexandria bested its season scoring average. This season, the Blizzard average 4.6 goals per contest.

Alexandria also got points from Schmidt, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Bo Gronseth, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Alexandria included Aammir Freese, Aaron Ryback, and Drake Hunter, who each put in one. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Jody Randall, who had two and Brandon Wedoff, Garrett Skinner, Mick Dhein, and Gavin Mindt, who contributed one a piece.

The Whalers forced Alexandria goalie Tanner Elmore to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. Wisconsin outdid its season average for goals scored. The Whalers have scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Wisconsin additionally got points from Dan Addie, who also registered one goal and one assist, Zack Johnson, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Adam Alcott, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Wisconsin came via Ryan Martin, who had three and D.J. Mussey, Connor Morgan, Tim Tarvis, and Connor Hyde, who each chipped in one.

The Blizzard's Elmore stopped 50 shots out of the 56 that he faced. Alexandria incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Connor Fissel made 44 saves for Wisconsin on 51 shots. The Whalers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
