Topeka outlasts Dallas, 5-3

The Topeka Capitals and the Dallas Jr. Stars were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Topeka made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Capitals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Trenton Faber 15:27 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Faber had two goals to lead Topeka to victory.

The Capitals' penalty kill excelled, as Topeka gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Topeka also got points from Kole Hudson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included Joe Stoneburner and Nick Manney, who each put in one. In addition, Topeka received assists from Georgy Ostapchuk, who had two and Nick Rizzo and Jaydn Munnelly, who each chipped in one.

Dallas forced the Capitals goalie Jude Hull to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Jr. Stars' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Dallas was helped by Corey Burns, who grabbed one goal. Burns scored 17:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Dallas. Alex MacInnis provided the assist. Dallas also had goals scored by Maxim Ledyankin and Keith Huspen, who scored one goal each. More assists for Dallas came via Cam Choate, who had two and Raurie Petrich, Stephen Smith, and Tommy Stock, who contributed one a piece.

Jude Hull made 39 saves for Topeka on 42 shots. The Capitals incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Link Ferch recorded 22 saves for the Jr. Stars. Dallas ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major.
