Dhein nets hat trick, leads Alexandria to 5-1 win over North Iowa

The North Iowa Bulls could not stop the Alexandria Blizzard's Mick Dhein, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win.

Dhein notched his first tally 9:12 into the second period. He then added goals at 13:53 into the second and at 19:05 into the third.

North Iowa was stymied by Alexandria netminder Tanner Elmore, who stopped 44 shots during the victory. Elmore certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.65 entering the contest.

The Blizzard excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Bulls were unable to stop Alexandria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blizzard eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Alexandria also had goals scored by Aammir Freese and Joe Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for Alexandria came via Drake Hunter, who had two and Ian Ecklund, Garrett Skinner, Tom Schmidt, Hunter Bowlin, Jake Maxson, and Aaron Ryback, who contributed one a piece.

North Iowa's offense operated below it season average. The Bulls put an average of 6.3 pucks into the net per game. North Iowa's offense rang up 45 shots on Alexandria's net. The Bulls' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. North Iowa is averaging 2.0 goals against for the season.

The Bulls were led by Timothy Santopoalo, who scored the team's only goal. Santopoalo scored 3:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Matt Kroska assisted on the tally.

The Blizzard incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chris Amsden rejected 28 shots on goal for North Iowa. The Bulls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
