Minnesota uses shootout to best Chicago, 8-7 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minnesota Flying Aces defeated the Chicago Junior Bulldogs in a shootout 8-7 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Minnesota also got a shootout goal from Jake Mullendore.

Chicago was unable to stop the Flying Aces from sending pucks towards the net, and Minnesota eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Flying Aces' goal total was higher than their season average. Minnesota averages 2.6 goals per game. The Flying Aces took advantage of the Junior Bulldogs' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Minnesota was led by Mullendore, who had three goals and three assists. Minnesota also got points from Anthony Martinez, who also racked up two goals and three assists and Eric Cruickshank, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Minnesota also got a goal from AJ Gullickson as well. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Blake Anderson, who had two and Bradee Thompson, Vladislav Shipota, and Vladimir Marchenko, who contributed one a piece.

Chicago forced the Flying Aces goalie Mike Stumpf to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. The Junior Bulldogs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Chicago has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Junior Bulldogs were helped by Ryan Maksimovic, who registered three goals. Chicago additionally got points from Kyle Pierce, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Luke Morin, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Chicago included Tyler Dalton and John Godfrey, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Vince Bartkowiak, Matt Blaszkiewicz, and Henry Hearon, who each chipped in one and Matt Kostopoulos, Nathan Iaciancio, and Zac Edwards, who contributed two a piece.

Stumpf rejected 49 shots on goal for Minnesota. The Flying Aces incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Joey Garapolo recorded 31 saves for Chicago. The Junior Bulldogs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
