Alexandria survives Granite City comeback, wins 3-2

The Alexandria Blizzard survived a determined comeback attempt by the Granite City Lumberjacks on the way to a 3-2 win.

Alexandria made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tom Schmidt at 4:09 in the third period, and Granite City got as close as 3-2 when Zac Sikich scored 14:27 into the third period.

The Blizzard were led by Schmidt, who finished with one goal.

Alexandria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Granite City power plays.

Others who scored for Alexandria included Ian Ecklund and Joe Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for Alexandria came via Garrett Skinner, Mick Dhein, and Jake Maxson, who each chipped in one.

The Lumberjacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Granite City was held below its usual level of production. The Lumberjacks average 5.5 goals per game. Granite City's offense rang up 35 shots on the Blizzard's net.

Granite City also got a goal from Drew Otto as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Mitchell Gwost, who had two and Aidan Verbeke and Brett Love, who contributed one a piece.

Alexandria's Tanner Elmore stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Blizzard incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Austin Wilson rejected 24 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Granite City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
