Cleveland squeaks by Breezy Point, 5-3

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks and the Breezy Point North Stars were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cleveland made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brendan Logan's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were led by Logan, who finished with one goal and one assist. Logan scored on the power play 17:12 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Cleveland. Cleveland earned a power play opportunity when Crosby Steen was put in the box for tripping. Ben Lau provided the assist.

The Jr. Lumberjacks kept Breezy Point's goalie busy throughout the game, and Troy Pierce made 36 saves on 41 shots. Cleveland was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

Cleveland also got points from Stefan Horgas, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cleveland included Tyler Stockwell, Kyle Gonzalez, and Nick Balavich, who each put in one. More assists for Cleveland came via Jared Johnson, who had two and Alex Buban and Eli Lynn, who contributed one a piece.

The North Stars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Breezy Point finished with 22 penalty minutes.

The North Stars were helped by Kyle Whipple, who grabbed one goal. Whipple scored 13:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cleveland. Jason Pischke picked up the assist. Breezy Point also had goals scored by Jon Plaszcz and Chris Hjorth, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Russel Barone, who had one and Kyle Eberwein, who had two.

The Jr. Lumberjacks took out Tyler Jansen after he had made four saves and installed Joseph Moza in goal, where he finished with 19 saves and the win. Cleveland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Breezy Point registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
