Granite City survives St. Louis comeback, wins 6-4

The Granite City Lumberjacks, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Granite City and clinched a 6-4 victory.

The Lumberjacks led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Granite City's Gavin Porter's scored at 9:04 in the second period to put the Lumberjacks up 5-2.

Zac Sikich had two goals to lead Granite City to victory. Sikich found the back of the net 54 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while 8:22 into the first to make the score 2-1 Granite City.

The Lumberjacks forced the St. Louis Jr. Blues' netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Clint Steinmeyer made 17 stops and Cooper Cothran made 11.

Granite City additionally got points from Drew Otto, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Christian Mohs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Granite City also got a goal from Tobias Gabrielsen as well. More assists for Granite City came via Brett Love, who had two and Zach Voss, Roy Grandov, Sam Zweiner, and Aaron Storch, who contributed one a piece.

St. Louis was helped by Alex Klaesner, who tallied one goal. Klaesner scored 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Roeder picked up the assist. St. Louis also got points from Zane OBryan, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Louis also had goals scored by Alexander Carlsson and Christian Argyros, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Tommy Heinzman, Andrew Kovacich, and Steven Farina, who each chipped in one.

Scott Murray made 16 saves for Granite City on 20 shots. The Lumberjacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Blues totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
