Martin nets hat trick, leads Wisconsin to 4-3 win over Topeka

Ryan Martin netted a hat trick to lead the Wisconsin Whalers over the Topeka Capitals, 4-3.

Martin notched his first tally 28 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 5:22 into the second and at 18:26 into the third.

Wisconsin's penalty kill excelled, as the Whalers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Topeka was unable to stop Wisconsin from sending pucks towards the net, and the Whalers eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Wisconsin was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage.

Nolan Kepler also scored for Wisconsin. More assists for Wisconsin came via Dan Addie, Tim Tarvis, and Kaleb Morley, who each chipped in one and Mitch Riese and Jason Hoehn, who contributed two a piece.

The Capitals stifled the Whalers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Topeka was led by Yu Kikosaka, who finished with two goals. Kikosaka scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:28 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A hooking call on Nolan Stanley put the Capitals on the penalty kill. Kikosaka's next tally short handed made the score 3-3 with 1:58 left in the third period. Topeka had gained a power play chance when Zack Johnson was whistled for interference. Griffin Leach assisted on the tally. Topeka also got a goal from Jaydn Munnelly as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Nick Rizzo, who had two.

Wisconsin's Tyler Lewis stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Whalers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jude Hull rejected 31 shots on goal for the Capitals. Topeka incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
