Toledo's comeback falls short, Peoria wins 4-2

The Toledo Cherokee almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Peoria Mustangs managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Peoria led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Mustangs' Chance Homerin's scored at 6:18 in the second period to put Peoria up 3-0.

The Mustangs got the win on the strength of a great game by Nathan Chasteen, who had one goal and two assists. Chasteen scored 4:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Sam Turner picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, Toledo was led by Tyler Zalecki, who finished with two goals. Zalecki scored the first of his two goals at 12:05 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Zachary Armstrong assisted on the tally. Zalecki's next tally made the score 3-2 Peoria with 31 seconds left in the second period.

Peoria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cherokee to score on any of their five power plays. The Mustangs forced Toledo goalie Clay Horvath to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Peoria also got points from Turner, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Peoria also got a goal from Andrew Scofield as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Levi Armstrong, Joshua Hart, and Brendan Murphy, who contributed one a piece.

The Cherokee kept Peoria's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Hayton made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Dominic Antonelli, who had one.

The Mustangs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Clay Horvath made 32 saves for Toledo on 36 shots. The Cherokee incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
