Kikosaka leads Topeka over Dallas, 6-2

The Topeka Capitals were firing on all cylinders against the Dallas Jr. Stars, and when the final buzzer sounded Capitals emerged with a 6-2 win.

Topeka got the win thanks to a great game by Yu Kikosaka, who had two goals and one assist. Kikosaka scored the first of his two goals at 10:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Topeka. Kikosaka's next tally made the score 4-1 Topeka with 7:08 left in the second period. The Capitals had taken the advantage when Dallas' Jake Furnow got sent off for abuse of officials. Nick Rizzo provided the assist.

Topeka pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 43 penalty minutes.

The Capitals stifled the Jr. Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Topeka also got points from Hardijis Kupaks, who also had one goal and one assist and Kole Hudson, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Topeka also got a goal from Trenton Faber as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Casey LaBonte, Nick Manney, Benton Deanovich, and Nolan Stanley, who each chipped in one.

Dallas' offense rang up 39 shots on Topeka's net. The Jr. Stars' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Capitals' power play unit. Dallas found itself short handed often, totaling 44 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

The Jr. Stars were led by Cam Choate, who registered one goal. Choate scored 1:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dallas. Raurie Petrich assisted on the tally. Rutger Kesling also scored for Dallas. In addition, Dallas received assists from Ben Owen, Jake Gevaart, and Colin South, who contributed one a piece.

Mike McElroy made 37 saves for Topeka on 39 shots. Steffan Muller took the loss and made 17 saves before being replaced by Link Ferch who made seven saves. Dallas registered zero goals on nine power play opportunities.
