Granite City rolls over Breezy Point, 6-1Breezy Point Ice Arena Sat, Nov 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Granite City Lumberjacks had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Breezy Point North Stars. Granite City got the win on the strength of a great game by Zac Sikich, who had two goals and two assists. Sikich scored the first of his two goals at 10:54 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Granite City. Aidan Verbeke picked up the assist. Sikich's next tally made the score 5-0 Granite City with 57 seconds left in the second period. Aaron Storch provided the assist. The Lumberjacks' penalty kill excelled, as Granite City gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The the Lumberjacks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Granite City had been spending in the box. Breezy Point was unable to stop the Lumberjacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Granite City eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Lumberjacks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 11 chances. Granite City also got points from Verbeke, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Drew Otto, who also registered one goal and one assist, Storch, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Christian Mohs, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Granite City came via Mitchell Gwost, who had two and Brady Berhardson, Roy Grandov, and Tobias Gabrielsen, who contributed one a piece. The North Stars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Scott Murray recorded 22 saves for Granite City. For the Lumberjacks, Gabrielsen was ejected from the game. Breezy Point's Joey Bergquist stopped 38 shots out of the 44 that he faced.
