Flint outlasts Cleveland, 3-2

The game between the Flint Junior Generals and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Flint emerged with a 3-2 win.

The Junior Generals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jacob Drinkard 19:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Flint got the win behind a great game by Drinkard, who had two goals and one assist. Drinkard scored the first of his two goals at 1:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint. Mark McGee assisted on the tally. Drinkard's next tally made the score 3-2 Flint with 25 seconds left in the third period. Brett Leppek picked up the assist.

The Junior Generals stifled Cleveland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Flint's offense operated below it season average. The Junior Generals put an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. Flint kept the Jr. Lumberjacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Moza made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Flint additionally got points from McGee, who also finished with one goal and two assists. In addition, Flint received assists from Oliver Lindstrom and Conner McGovern, who contributed one a piece.

Cleveland put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Junior Generals to score on any of their four power plays.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Nick Balavich, who registered one goal. Balavich scored 12:10 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jared Johnson assisted on the tally. Kyle Menges also scored for Cleveland. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Stefan Horgas and Mike Palasics, who each chipped in one.

Flint's Anders Franke stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Junior Generals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cleveland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
