Toledo vanquishes Michigan in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Team Toledo Ice House    Fri, Nov 08, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toledo Cherokee defeated the Michigan Mountain Cats in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Toledo overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cherokee fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Michigan's Zach Collins at 8:54 in the first period. Toledo tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Austin Turner at 18:29 in the third period.

The Mountain Cats' power play was ineffective against the Cherokee's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Toledo stifled Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cherokee's offense rang up 35 shots on the Mountain Cats' net.

Noah Szenderski also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Zachary Armstrong, Tyler Zalecki, Brody Duncan, and Brett Podgorski, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan was helped by Abram Prince, who racked up one goal and one assist. Prince scored 3:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan. Max Vance assisted on the tally. Michigan also got points from Collins, who also had one goal and one assist.

Aaron Callan recorded 21 saves for Toledo. The Cherokee incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kevin OShea made 32 saves for the Mountain Cats on 34 shots. Michigan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
