North Iowa vanquishes St. Louis in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the North Iowa Bulls defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. St. Louis' shootout goal was scored by Zane OBryan. In addition to the clincher, North Iowa got a shootout goal from Logan Murphy.

The Bulls overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. North Iowa fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Jr. Blues' Christian Argyros at 17:59 in the third period. The Bulls tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Richie Marenis at 18:33 in the third period.

North Iowa was held below its usual level of production. The Bulls put an average of 6.8 pucks into the net per game. North Iowa's offense rang up 47 shots on St. Louis' net.

The Bulls were helped by Joey Sundgren, who registered one goal. Sundgren scored short handed 7:44 into the third period to make the score 2-2. North Iowa played down a man on Murphy's slashing. Ian Penvose picked up the assist. Conor Jonasson also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Chancie Hanson, Kyle Krueger, and Matt Kroska, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Blues stifled the Bulls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

St. Louis was helped by Alex Klaesner, who racked up one goal. Klaesner scored on the power play 15:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Louis. The Jr. Blues had gained a power play chance when Penvose was whistled for elbowing. Kyle Meeh assisted on the tally. St. Louis also got points from Argyros, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Louis also got a goal from Tommy Heinzman as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were OBryan and Jiri Turbacik, who contributed one a piece.

Dylan Parker made 22 saves for North Iowa on 25 shots. The Bulls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Clint Steinmeyer recorded 43 saves for St. Louis. The Jr. Blues incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
