Cleveland beats Michigan 8-0 as Buban gets hat trick

Alex Buban netted a hat trick to lead the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks over the Michigan Mountain Cats, 8-0.

Buban's first goal came 15:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:18 into the second and at 11:47 into the third.

Cleveland made Michigan's netminders to work in net, finishing with 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Walker Bass made 27 stops and Kevin OShea made 12. The Jr. Lumberjacks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Cleveland ended up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Lumberjacks was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Cleveland gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. The Jr. Lumberjacks bested their season scoring average. Cleveland has scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. The Jr. Lumberjacks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cleveland also got points from Ben Lau, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nick Balavich, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stefan Horgas also scored for Cleveland. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Ben Urbas, Avery Huibregtse, Vince Fornes, Kyle Menges, Tyler Stockwell, and Brendan Logan, who contributed one a piece and Eli Lynn and Jared Johnson, who each chipped in two.

Cleveland's Tyler Jansen stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Jr. Lumberjacks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Mountain Cats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
