Addie lifts Wisconsin over Cincinnati, 7-3

Behind a great game by Dan Addie, who had two goals, the Wisconsin Whalers defeated the Cincinnati Swords, 7-3.

Addie scored at 4:00 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Wisconsin and again while on the power play 6:23 into the third to make the score 5-3 Wisconsin.

Wisconsin forced Cincinnati goalie Alec Rounds to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Whalers outdid their season average for goals scored. Wisconsin averages 4.0 goals per game. The Whalers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Wisconsin also got points from Ryan Martin, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Tim Tarvis, who also had one goal and three assists, and Adam Alcott, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Mitch Riese also scored for Wisconsin. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Easton Halbert, who had two and Tommy Hanson, Jason Hoehn, Zack Johnson, Connor Hyde, and Brett Gates, who contributed one a piece.

The Swords found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Cincinnati was helped by Thomas Clayton, who registered one goal. Clayton scored 2:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. Matt St. Martin picked up the assist. Cincinnati also got a goal from Andrew Bond as well. More assists for Cincinnati came via Nick Haase, Nikita Korotkov, Henry Smith, Braden Smith, and Ryan Sete, who each chipped in one.

Wisconsin's David Volkmann stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Whalers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Rounds rejected 28 shots on goal for the Swords. Cincinnati registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
