Topeka vanquishes :Chicago in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka Capitals defeated :Chicago in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. :Chicago's shootout goal was scored by Trevor Foley. Topeka also got a shootout goal from Nick White.

The Capitals saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Topeka made the score 5-2 on a goal by Tyler Brady at 15:16 in the second period. :Chicago evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Matt Kostopoulos at 19:22 in the third period.

The Capitals got the win on the strength of a great game by Brady, who had two goals and one assist. Brady scored the first of his two goals short handed at 8:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Topeka was on a disadvantage when Georgy Ostapchuk went off the ice for holding. Dante Juris picked up the assist. Brady's next tally short handed made the score Topeka with 4:44 left in the second period. Yu Kikosaka provided the assist.

The Capitals forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Topeka had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Capitals' offense rang up 48 shots on :Chicago's net. Topeka's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Capitals are averaging 2.0 goals against for the season.

Topeka additionally got points from Kikosaka, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nick Manney also scored for Topeka. In addition, Topeka received assists from White and Jaydn Munnelly, who each chipped in one.

:Chicago kept Topeka's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jude Hull made 29 saves on 34 shots. Team could not crack the Capitals' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

:Chicago also got a goal from Foley as well. More assists for :Chicago came via Luke Morin and Justin Stein, who contributed one a piece.

Topeka registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Michael Paku made 42 saves for :Chicago on 47 shots. :Chicago incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
