Chicago beats Battle Creek 4-3 after comeback scare

The Battle Creek Revolution tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chicago Junior Bulldogs held on for a 4-3 victory.

Chicago made the score 4-2 on a goal by Ryan Maksimovic at 9:22 in the third period, and Battle Creek got as close as 4-3 when Eric Stewart scored 14:55 into the third period.

Maksimovic had two goals to lead the Junior Bulldogs to victory.

Chicago kept the Revolution's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Mortland made 62 saves on 66 shots. The Junior Bulldogs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Vince Bartkowiak also scored for Chicago. Other players who recorded assists for Chicago were Andrew Fattore, Toms Taurins, Matt Kostopoulos, Luke Morin, Matthew Mullally, and Jarret Walt, who contributed one a piece.

Battle Creek stifled Chicago's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Junior Bulldogs were unable to stop the Revolution from sending pucks towards the net, and Battle Creek eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. The Revolution surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Battle Creek averages 0.9 goals per contest.

The Revolution were helped by Michael Schmitt, who tallied one goal and one assist. Schmitt scored on the power play 14:24 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Chicago. Battle Creek earned a power play opportunity when Joseph Catalano was put in the box for roughing. Stewart provided the assist. Battle Creek also got points from Stewart, who also registered one goal and one assist. Battle Creek also got a goal from Chris McCausland as well. In addition, Battle Creek received assists from Daniel Olson, who had two and Austin Hill and Brandon Benaglio, who each chipped in one.

Joey Garapolo made 48 saves for Chicago on 51 shots. The Junior Bulldogs registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Chicago ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mullally was ejected from the game. The Revolution incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
