Huge game by Verbeke boosts Granite City over Breezy Point, 5-2

The Granite City Lumberjacks' Aidan Verbeke had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Breezy Point North Stars.

Verbeke found the back of the net 4:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while short handed 9:46 into the second to make the score 2-1 Granite City.

Granite City kept Breezy Point's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joey Bergquist made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Travis Kothenbeutel also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Zach Voss, Luc Richardson, Mitchell Gwost, Hunter Schneider, David Horsmann, and Aaron Storch, who each chipped in one.

The North Stars stifled the Lumberjacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Breezy Point was helped by Jason Pischke, who registered one goal. Pischke scored 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Breezy Point. Crosby Steen assisted on the tally. Breezy Point also got a goal from Kyle Whipple as well. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Jon Plaszcz and Benji Smieja, who contributed one a piece.

Austin Wilson recorded 13 saves for Granite City. The Lumberjacks totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The North Stars totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
