Alexandria survives Wisconsin comeback, wins 6-4Runestone Community Center Fri, Oct 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wisconsin Whalers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Alexandria Blizzard would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4. A goal by Drake Hunter put Alexandria up 6-3 in the third period, but Wisconsin pulled to within two on Dan Addie's tally 14:54 into the third period. Joe Anderson was all over the ice for the Blizzard, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Anderson scored the first of his two goals short handed at 15:19 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Alexandria. Alexandria played down a man on Tom Schmidt's unsportsmanlike conduct. Ian Ecklund provided the assist. Anderson's next tally short handed made the score 5-3 Alexandria with 11:24 left in the third period. Aaron Ryback picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:28 into the third period. Ten fighting penalties were dished out along with 11 game misconducts. Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period. The Blizzard racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and seven majors for 117 minutes in penalty time. Alexandria surpassed its season average of 42.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blizzard forced the Whalers goalie Michal Marcinek to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Alexandria also got points from Ecklund, who also had one goal and three assists and Ryback, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Mick Dhein as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Trent Olson, Bryce Mitzel, Danny Pelzer, Gavin Mindt, and Jody Randall, who contributed one a piece. Wisconsin was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and six majors for 90 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Whalers had been spending in the box. Team could not crack Alexandria's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Wisconsin got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.
