Peoria uses fast start to beat Battle Creek, 7-0

The Battle Creek Revolution fell behind early, and the Peoria Mustangs kept piling on the points on the way to a 7-0 victory.

Marc Hayton frustrated Battle Creek's offense all game, and stopped 39 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of Hayton will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.01.

Peoria got the win on the strength of a great game by Brennan Anderson, who had two goals and one assist. Anderson scored the first of his two goals at 25 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Brendan Murphy picked up the assist. Anderson's next tally made the score 3-0 Peoria with 13:44 left in the first period. Austin Ziakas assisted on the tally.

The Mustangs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Peoria had been spending in the box. The Mustangs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Peoria featured an improved defense during the game. The Mustangs gives up 3.0 goals on average per game. Peoria's offense rang up 51 shots on the Revolution's net.

Peoria also got points from Blake Ortman, who also registered one goal and one assist, Andrew Scofield, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Gage VanOrder, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Nick Conner also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Sam Turner, who had one and Jordan Wright and Nathan Chasteen, who each chipped in two.

The Battle Creek penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Revolution surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mustangs were unable to stop Battle Creek from sending pucks towards the net, and the Revolution eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Peoria registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Tyler Babinski made 44 saves for Battle Creek on 51 shots.
