Pittsburgh uses shootout to best Cleveland, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pittsburgh Vengeance defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Cleveland got a shootout goal from Tyler Stockwell. Pittsburgh also got a shootout goal from Tom Diffendal.

The Vengeance overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pittsburgh was down 2-0 after a power play goal by the Jr. Lumberjacks' Stefan Horgas at 18:14 in the second period. The Vengeance tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Diffendal at 17:55 in the third period.

Pittsburgh also got a goal from Cody Black as well. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Lukas Friberger and Oskar Thorsen, who contributed one a piece.

Cleveland was helped by Jared Johnson, who grabbed one goal. Johnson scored on the power play 15:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks had gotten the advantage when Pittsburgh's Kevin Kenny was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Jake Maier assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Avery Huibregtse and Ben Lau, who each chipped in one.

Jason Kumpfmiller recorded 24 saves for the Vengeance. Pittsburgh incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cleveland's Joseph Moza stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
