Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minnesota Flying Aces defeated the Twin City Steel in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Twin City's shootout goal was scored by Ben Ihrie. Minnesota also got a shootout goal from Eric Cruickshank.The Flying Aces put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Steel to score on any of their four power plays. Minnesota was helped by AJ Gullickson, who racked up one goal. Gullickson scored 11:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Jake Mullendore picked up the assist. Minnesota also got points from Mullendore, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Minnesota came via Jordan Forschen, who had one. Twin City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Minnesota power plays. The Steel's offense rang up 46 shots on the Flying Aces' net. Twin City was helped by Tony Arias, who grabbed one goal. Arias scored 18:56 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Twin City also got a goal from Dylan Lincoln as well. In addition, Twin City received assists from Calvin Miska, who had one. Jaxson Gosnell made 44 saves for Minnesota on 46 shots. The Flying Aces ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Steel's Thomas Terrance stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Twin City incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
