Flint vanquishes Toledo in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Flint Junior Generals defeated the Toledo Cherokee in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Toledo got shootout goals from Tyler Zalecki and Dominic Antonelli. Flint's other shootout goals were scored by Zach Koonce and Conor Durgan.

The Junior Generals came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Flint fell behind 1-0 after a power play goal by the Cherokee's Brett Podgorski at 15:23 in the second period. The Junior Generals knotted things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by Mark McGee at 2:23 in the third period.

Flint was led by goalie Nathan Klebe, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Klebe certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.43 entering the contest.

The the Junior Generals penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Flint had been spending in the box. The Junior Generals could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Flint puts an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Flint received assists from Koonce and Justin Fisher, who each chipped in one.

Toledo's offense rang up 35 shots on the Junior Generals' net. The Cherokee found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Toledo additionally got points from Brody Duncan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Toledo came via David Bogart, who had one.

Team's Caleb Gannelli and Luke Dmytro were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Clay Horvath made 28 saves for Toledo on 29 shots. The Cherokee registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
