Cincinnati holds on for 5-4 win against Cleveland

The Cincinnati Swords survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks on the way to a 5-4 win.

Cincinnati took a 5-1 lead during the third period, only to have Cleveland storm back on a Kyle Gonzalez goal 18:36 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Swords' penalty kill excelled, as Cincinnati gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Swords' offense rang up 45 shots on the Jr. Lumberjacks' net. Cincinnati's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

The Swords were helped by Thomas Clayton, who racked up one goal. Clayton scored short handed 7:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. Cincinnati played down a man on Jessie Fracassi's interference. Devin Fracassi provided the assist. Cincinnati additionally got points from Fracassi, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Timmy Weisgerber, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Sean Kilpatrick also scored for Cincinnati. More assists for Cincinnati came via Andrew Bond, who had two and Jeremy Navarro, Nick Haase, Nikita Korotkov, RJ Marshall, Henry Smith, and Matt St. Martin, who contributed one a piece.

Cleveland forced the Swords goalie Alec Rounds to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Nick Balavich, who registered one goal and two assists. Balavich scored 17:37 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Cincinnati. Jared Johnson picked up the assist. Cleveland also got points from Gonzalez, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Johnson, who also had one goal and two assists. Cleveland also got a goal from Brendan Logan as well.

Rounds recorded 30 saves for Cincinnati. The Swords incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Joseph Moza rejected 40 shots on goal for Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
