Flint rips Peoria, 5-1

The Flint Junior Generals had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Peoria Mustangs.

Peoria was stymied by Flint netminder Anders Franke, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. Franke certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.32 entering the contest.

The Junior Generals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Flint forced the Mustangs goalie Jarin Aden to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Junior Generals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 27 minutes in penalties during the game.

Flint was led by Conor Durgan, who finished with one goal and two assists. Durgan scored 7:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint. Reno de Hondt provided the assist. Others who scored for Flint included Jacob Drinkard, who had one and Cam Jorgensen, who had three. In addition, Flint received assists from Conner McGovern and Brit Brothen, who each chipped in two.

Peoria stifled the Junior Generals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mustangs were held below their usual level of production. Peoria averages 5.0 goals per game. The Mustangs' offense rang up 38 shots on Flint's net.

Peoria also got a goal from Brendan Murphy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Nathan Chasteen and Gage VanOrder, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Generals registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Flint ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Caleb Gannelli was ejected from the game. Aden recorded 42 saves for Peoria. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
