South nets hat trick, leads Dallas to 12-4 win over Sugar Land

A hat trick by Colin South was the highlight in Jr. Stars' 12-4 win against the Sugar Land Imperials.

South got on the scoresheet 10:33 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:43 into the second and at 7:17 into the third.

The Dallas Jr. Stars led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring six goals in the second.

Sugar Land was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Dallas was able to score five times while on the power play.

The Jr. Stars racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 18 minors and two majors for 96 minutes in penalty time. Dallas surpassed its season average of 71.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Stars made Imperials' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 53 shots and forcing 41 saves. Seth Edeen made 26 stops and Matt Douglas made 15. Dallas outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Jr. Stars average 7.5 goals per contest. Dallas got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed four goals during the game.

Dallas also got points from Brandon Salisbury, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Raurie Petrich, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Ben Owen, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jake Gevaart, who also had one goal and one assist, and Maxim Ledyankin, who also racked up two goals and two assists. Dallas also had goals scored by Corey Burns, who had one and Cam Choate, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Dallas were Alex MacInnis and Alex Cyrenne, who contributed one a piece and Keith Huspen and Tommy Stock, who each chipped in three.

The Imperials forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 20 minors and two majors for 100 minutes in penalty time. Sugar Land had been averaging 64.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Imperials' offense rang up 36 shots on the Jr. Stars' net.

Sugar Land was led by Avik Bordak, who racked up two goals and one assist. Bordak scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:06 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Dallas. The Imperials had gotten the advantage when Dallas' Choate was sent off for slashing. Tucker Spooner assisted on the tally. Bordak's next tally on the power play made the score 7-4 Dallas with 9:26 left in the second period. Sugar Land earned a power play opportunity when Owen was put in the box for slashing. Griffin Leach provided the assist. Sugar Land additionally got points from Luke Simon, who also registered one goal and one assist and Leach, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Eligah Bordak, who had one.

The Jr. Stars' Link Ferch stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. For Dallas, Salisbury and Stock were ejected from the contest. The Imperials registered four goals on 12 power play opportunities. Team's Travis Wilson and Bordak were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
