Johnson lifts Cleveland over Pittsburgh, 5-2

Behind a great game by Jared Johnson, who had two goals, the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Pittsburgh Vengeance, 5-2.

Johnson's tallies came at 17:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 1:47 into the second to make the score 2-1 Cleveland.

Pittsburgh's power play was ineffective against Cleveland's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Jr. Lumberjacks kept the Vengeance's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Kumpfmiller made 32 saves on 37 shots. Cleveland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cleveland also got points from Stefan Horgas, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ben Lau, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cleveland also got a goal from Tyler Pritt as well. More assists for Cleveland came via Colby Anderson, who had one, Mike Palasics, who had three, and Tyler Stockwell and John Michael Barlow, who each chipped in two.

Pittsburgh forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie Joseph Moza to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Vengeance were helped by Tyler Speis, who racked up one goal and one assist. Speis scored 7:47 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Cleveland. Kevin Kenny provided the assist. Pittsburgh additionally got points from Tom Diffendal, who also had one goal and one assist.

Moza recorded 32 saves for Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Pittsburgh incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
