Granite City rolls over Twin City, 8-1

The Granite City Lumberjacks were firing on all cylinders against the Twin City Steel, and when the final buzzer sounded Lumberjacks emerged with an 8-1 win.

Twin City was stymied by Granite City netminder Scott Murray, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Murray certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.51 entering the contest.

The Steel were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as the Lumberjacks were able to score five times while on the power play.

Granite City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Lumberjacks kept Twin City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson Germaine made 44 saves on 52 shots. Granite City's goal total was higher than its season average. The Lumberjacks average 5.5 goals per game. Granite City's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Lumberjacks finished with 24 penalty minutes. The defensemen of Granite City were also effective in the Steel's zone, and came away with two goals.

The Lumberjacks were helped by Luc Richardson, who tallied one goal. Richardson scored 16:48 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Aaron Storch assisted on the tally. Granite City also got points from Drew Otto, who also registered one goal and one assist and Storch, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Granite City included Aidan Verbeke, who had two and Zach Voss, Brady Berhardson, and David Horsmann, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Brett Love, Hunter Schneider, Sam Zweiner, and Christian Mohs, who contributed one a piece and Mitchell Gwost, Tobias Gabrielsen, and Travis Kothenbeutel, who each chipped in two.

Twin City was led by Cory Johnson, who scored the team's only goal. Johnson scored 4:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Twin City. Calvin Miska provided the assist.

The Steel incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
