Anderson leads Peoria over Wisconsin, 6-2

The Peoria Mustangs' Brennan Anderson had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Wisconsin Whalers.

Anderson scored on the power play 1:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Peoria. Wisconsin had taken the advantage when Peoria's Brendan Murphy got sent off for elbowing. Zach Johnson assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Whalers were led by Ryan Martin, who racked up two goals. Martin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:53 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Johnson picked up the assist. Martin's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Peoria with 2:58 left in the second period. A tripping penalty on Anderson had put Wisconsin on the power play. Johnson assisted on the tally.

The Mustangs forced Whalers' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Tyler Lewis made six stops and Michal Marcinek made 22. Peoria was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time.

Peoria additionally got points from Murphy, who also had one goal and one assist. Sam Turner also scored for Peoria. More assists for Peoria came via Austin Ziakas, Levi Armstrong, Marshall Gevers, Tommy Turner, and Austin Wisely, who each chipped in one.

The Whalers' offense rang up 47 shots on the Mustangs' net.

In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Brett Gates, who had one.

Jarin Aden made 45 saves for Peoria on 47 shots. The Mustangs registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Wisconsin totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play.
