Flint rolls over Pittsburgh, 4-0

The Flint Junior Generals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Vengeance.

Zach Koonce had two goals to lead Flint to victory. Koonce's tallies came at 9:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint and on the power play 14:23 into the third to make the score 3-0 Flint.

Pittsburgh's power play was ineffective against the Junior Generals' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Flint's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Pittsburgh power plays. The Junior Generals could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Flint puts an average of 6.5 pucks into the net per game. The Junior Generals' offense rang up 41 shots on the Vengeance's net. Flint could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Flint also got points from Brett Leppek, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Justin Fisher, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Oliver Lindstrom, Austin Fletcher, and Nicholas Gnagni, who each chipped in one.

Pittsburgh forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game the Vengeance had been spending in the box. Pittsburgh's offense operated below it season average. The Vengeance average 3.7 goals per game. Pittsburgh's offense was handcuffed by the Junior Generals' defensive play, and the Vengeance managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

Nathan Klebe rejected 12 shots on goal for Flint. The Junior Generals registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Jason Kumpfmiller recorded 37 saves for Pittsburgh.
