Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chicago Junior Bulldogs defeated the Toledo Cherokee in a shootout 3-2 (4-3 SO). The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Toledo got shootout goals from Tyler Zalecki, Kyler Omey, and Noah Szenderski. In addition to the clincher, Chicago got shootout goals from Luke Morin, Daniel Marotz, and Zac Edwards.The Junior Bulldogs' penalty kill excelled, as Chicago gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. The the Junior Bulldogs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Chicago surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Junior Bulldogs were helped by Anthony Palermo, who racked up one goal. Palermo scored 2:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chicago. Joseph Catalano assisted on the tally. Chicago also got a goal from Ryan Maksimovic as well. More assists for Chicago came via Matthew Mullally, who had one. The Cherokee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Toledo forced Chicago goalie Michael Paku to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Cherokee could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. Toledo was helped by Brody Duncan, who grabbed one goal. Duncan scored on the power play 18:34 into the third period to make the score 2-2. A cross checking penalty on Maksimovic had put the Cherokee on the power play. David Bogart picked up the assist. Szenderski also scored for Toledo. The Junior Bulldogs' Paku stopped 45 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Chicago ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Toms Taurins was ejected from the game. Nate Gay made 24 saves for Toledo on 26 shots.
