Metro falls apart in second, loses to Flint, 7-1Iceland Arena Sun, Sep 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Metro Jets allowed the Flint Junior Generals to net three goals during the second period and fell, 7-1. Justin Fisher had two goals and one assist to lead Flint. Fisher scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. A hooking penalty on Zach Kopinski had put the Junior Generals on the power play. Ryan Burr assisted on the tally. Fisher's next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 Flint with 2:22 left in the second period. Flint had taken the advantage when Metro's Mike Schultz got sent off for slashing. Conor Durgan provided the assist. The Jets were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as the Junior Generals were able to score four times while on the power play. Flint was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Junior Generals had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. Flint excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Metro was unable to stop the Junior Generals from sending pucks towards the net, and Flint eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Flint additionally got points from Durgan, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Flint also had goals scored by Nicholas Gnagni, who had two and Cam Jorgensen and Josh Koepplinger, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Mark McGee, who had two and Conner McGovern, Zach Koonce, and Jacob Drinkard, who each chipped in one. The Jets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game. Metro was led by Alex Holm, who scored the team's only goal. Holm scored 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nathan Klebe rejected 21 shots on goal for the Junior Generals. Kameron Limburg recorded 34 saves for the Jets.
