Speis' big game bests Michigan in 7-2 Pittsburgh win

Behind a great game by Tyler Speis, who had two goals and one assist, the Pittsburgh Vengeance defeated the Michigan Mountain Cats, 7-2.

Speis' tallies came on the power play at 5:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pittsburgh and 7:31 into the third to make the score 5-2 Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Vengeance forced Michigan goalie Kevin OShea to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Pittsburgh surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Vengeance average 4.3 goals per contest.

Pittsburgh also got points from Kevin Kenny, who also registered one goal and one assist and Tom Diffendal, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Pittsburgh also had goals scored by Chris McCambridge, who had one and Joseph Randazzo, who had two. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Cody Black, who had two and Thomas Leistner, Lukas Friberger, and Oskar Thorsen, who contributed one a piece.

The Mountain Cats were helped by Kade Morrison, who racked up one goal. Morrison scored 1:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Pittsburgh. Abram Prince assisted on the tally. John Arms also scored for Michigan. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Christopher Williams and Austin Buchholz, who each chipped in one.

Pittsburgh's Tyler Geloneck stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Vengeance incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kevin OShea made 32 saves for Michigan on 39 shots. The Mountain Cats incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
