Granite City shrugs off penalties, upends Alexandria, 4-1Armadillo Deck Arena East Sat, Sep 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alexandria Blizzard failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Granite City Lumberjacks shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-1. Granite City was led by Aaron Storch, who registered one goal and one assist. Storch scored 18:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Zac Sikich assisted on the tally. The Lumberjacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Granite City forced Alexandria goalie Evan Bisek to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Granite City also got points from Sikich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Granite City also got a goal from Hunter Schneider as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Luc Richardson, Mitchell Gwost, Travis Kothenbeutel, and Christian Mohs, who each chipped in one. The Blizzard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lumberjacks to score on any of their six power plays. Austin Wilson recorded 20 saves for Granite City. The Lumberjacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Evan Bisek made 38 saves for Alexandria on 42 shots. The Blizzard incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
