Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toledo Cherokee defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Cleveland's shootout goal was scored by Brendan Logan. Toledo's other shootout goal was scored by Tyler Zalecki.The Cherokee pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. Toledo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Cleveland power plays. The Cherokee kept the Jr. Lumberjacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Jansen made 47 saves on 50 shots. Toledo was helped by Brody Duncan, who had one goal. Duncan scored 15:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toledo. Brett Podgorski picked up the assist. Toledo also got a goal from Zalecki as well. More assists for Toledo came via Dominic Antonelli and Kyler Omey, who contributed one a piece. The Cherokee were unable to stop Cleveland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Lumberjacks eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Cleveland was led by Logan, who racked up one goal and one assist. Logan scored 19:20 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Mike Palasics provided the assist. Eli Lynn also scored for Cleveland. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Brandon DeLano and Ben Lau, who each chipped in one. Clay Horvath rejected 34 shots on goal for Toledo. The Cherokee registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
