Pittsburgh blows out Toledo, 5-2

The Toledo Cherokee had trouble finding ways to stop the Pittsburgh Vengeance, which beat Cherokee, 5-2.

Pittsburgh was led by Kevin Kenny, who had one goal and one assist. Kenny scored on the power play 7:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Pittsburgh. A roughing penalty on Brett Podgorski had put the Vengeance on the power play. Thomas Leistner picked up the assist.

Pittsburgh forced Toledo's goalies to work in net, racking up 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Nate Gay made 22 stops and Nick Danczak made five.

Pittsburgh also got points from Leistner, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tyler Speis, who also had one goal and one assist. Lukas Friberger also scored for Pittsburgh. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Nicholas Santiago, who had one and Tom Diffendal, who had two.

The Cherokee's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Toledo is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

The Cherokee were helped by Austin Turner, who grabbed one goal. Turner scored on the power play 17:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Pittsburgh. Toledo earned a power play opportunity when Kenny was put in the box for roughing. Kyler Omey assisted on the tally. Toledo also got a goal from Tyler Zalecki as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Dominic Antonelli and Hudson Sabin, who each chipped in one.

Jason Kumpfmiller made 27 saves for the Vengeance on 29 shots. Pittsburgh incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cherokee incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
