Lainesse leads Flint over Cleveland, 7-2

Behind a great game by Jacob Lainesse, who had one goal and two assists, the Flint Junior Generals defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 7-2.

Lainesse got on the board by slotting home a goal 6:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. Austin Fletcher picked up the assist. Lainesse dished an assist on Jacob Drinkard's goal that made the score 4-2 Flint at 13:06 into the second period. He added another helper on Ryan Burr's goal that made the score 7-2 Flint at 17:57 into the second period.

Flint pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

The Junior Generals stifled Cleveland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Lumberjacks were unable to stop Flint from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Generals eventually piled up 54 shots on goal.

Flint also got points from Zach Koonce, who also had one goal and one assist. Nicholas Gnagni also scored for Flint. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Andrew Bellant, who had two and Conner McGovern, Caleb Gannelli, Chris Skordilis, Brett Leppek, and Justin Fisher, who each chipped in one.

Cleveland was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 34.0 minutes per game the Jr. Lumberjacks had been spending in the box. Cleveland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Flint power plays. The Jr. Lumberjacks were held below their usual level of production. Cleveland puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Tyler Pritt, who racked up one goal and one assist. Pritt scored 14:20 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Jared Johnson provided the assist. Cleveland additionally got points from Johnson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Stefan Horgas, who had two.

Anders Franke made 28 saves for Flint on 30 shots. Joseph Moza rejected 47 shots on goal for Cleveland. The Jr. Lumberjacks registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities.
