xIdaho Junior Steelheads uses early goal to top Missoula Maulers, 4-2

Dimitris Jones gave xIdaho Junior Steelheads the lead in the first period, and Missoula Maulers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

Jones provided xIdaho Junior Steelheads with the game-winning tally when he scored 19:12 into the the first period. xIdaho Junior Steelheads had gained a power play chance when Joey Porco was whistled for interference. Bryan Hodges picked up the assist.

xIdaho Junior Steelheads' penalty kill excelled, as xIdaho Junior Steelheads gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

xIdaho Junior Steelheads was paced by Kyle TenEyck, who grabbed one goal. TenEyck scored 9:06 into the third period to make the score 3-1 xIdaho Junior Steelheads. Randy Patzner provided the assist.

xIdaho Junior Steelheads stifled Missoula Maulers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. xIdaho Junior Steelheads kept Missoula Maulers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Janzen made 33 saves on 37 shots. The defensemen of xIdaho Junior Steelheads were also effective in Missoula Maulers' zone, and came away with two goals.

xIdaho Junior Steelheads additionally got points from Macky Power, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Anton Virtanen also scored for xIdaho Junior Steelheads. Other players who recorded assists for xIdaho Junior Steelheads were Jesper Jensen, who had two and Victor Ivarsson, Parker Lewis, and Zach Walden, who each chipped in one.

Missoula Maulers got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Missoula Maulers was helped by Austin Azzinnaro, who registered one goal. Azzinnaro scored 3:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Josh Chamberlain picked up the assist. Missoula Maulers also got a goal from Henrik Ekestahl as well. In addition, Missoula Maulers received assists from Max Rebholz, Anders Nord, and Nikita Sheptytskyy, who contributed one a piece.

Danny Kowalski made 13 saves for xIdaho Junior Steelheads on 15 shots. xIdaho Junior Steelheads incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Missoula Maulers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
