Brown nets hat trick, leads Texas to 9-1 win over Wichita Jr. Thunder

Michael Brown netted a hat trick to lead Texas over Wichita Jr. Thunder, 9-1.

Brown's first goal came 11:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:01 into the first and at 15:47 into the first.

Texas led 6-1 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Texas was led by goalie Ryan Mulka, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Mulka certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.5 entering the contest.

Texas was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and four majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game Texas had been spending in the box. Texas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita Jr. Thunder to score on any of its five power plays. Texas kept Wichita Jr. Thunder's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Larson made 51 saves on 60 shots. Texas' goal total was higher than its season average. Texas has scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Texas also got points from Seth Ensor, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Texas also had goals scored by Landyn Howze, Dalton Foster, Tobias Sjolund, and Chris Stovall, who each put in one. In addition, Texas received assists from Keith Bendall, Jeremy Quinneville, Miguel Caron, Viktor Brask, Sebastien Tremblay, Jesse Foskey, Collin Young, and Ian Atencio, who contributed one a piece and Garrett Weitzel and Austin Murray, who each chipped in two.

Wichita Jr. Thunder forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and four majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. Wichita Jr. Thunder had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Wichita Jr. Thunder was led by Carter Suski, who scored the team's only goal. Suski scored 1:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita Jr. Thunder. Phillip Molton picked up the assist.

Texas registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
